Reviews: "New York narcotics detective Popeye Doyle follows the trail of the French connection smuggling ring to France where he teams up with the gendarmes to hunt down the ringleader."
The above uh, says it. Hackman doesn't really do gunplay or anything like it except on occasion, but its a good study on Hackman's character when he suffers from being strung out on dope, thanks to the antigonist. The screen time for Hackman's OD is long, but good in the way Hackman goes through it and the cold turkey to get rid of the addiction.
Something tells me that historical accuracy is far from Frankenheimer's mind. I think -- and this is only what I think -- that the antigonist lived and died a natural death. Don't quote me on that.
Still, 3.5 stars is good! |
