Am I beginning to like musicals…

…AGAIN?

Well hey, my number one favorite film of all time is "My Fair Lady" with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, so…

…it is about time!
--------------------------------------------
Finian's Rainbow (1968) *****

Fred Astaire, Petula Clark, Tommy Steele

Fred Astaire starred in his last musical in this film. Oh sure, in "That's Entertainment Pt. 2" (1976) he did some musical numbers but Mr. Astaire was just hosting a tribute to musical's. Fred Astaire is, in my opinion, my favorite actor. Sure, Bogart, Grant, Cooper, Peck, and "modern" day actors like Oldman, DeNiro, Pacino, Depp, Gibson etc. are all my favs, but the top of my list is Astaire.

Then there is Petula Clark. What? You never heard of Petula Clark? She starred the next year in "Goodbye Mr. Chips" with Peter O'Toole. Yet musicals are not her forte'. Like Barbra Streisand, she is a star of songs. Go to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abOzcjxNJ30) and see what I consider her best song. Yea, she is still singing in her 80's and is just as good!

Then there is the magical musical score! Awesome.

"Look to the Rainbow,"

"How are Things in Glocca Morra,"

and especially "Old Devil Moon"

Now the one who directed everything in "Finian's Rainbow": Francis Ford Coppola.

You don't know who he is? Hey, he's directed two films that rank Oscar's Best Picture, I kid you not. "Godfather" and "Godfather 2!" My favs tho are "Apocalypse Now" and "Dracula" (the latter with Gary Oldman.)

Yea, "Finian's Rainbow" is a musical extravaganza!
