Being that its from a folktale of Japan, I shouldn’t wonder at the Buddism displayed in this film. Sure, other Japanese cinema has it, but most don’t focus on Buddah’s religion as this film does. As a Christian my heart goes out to the people worshipping the idols of Shinto and Buddah, leaving there souls without Christ.
But then what do we have in the USA but altheist worldviews that seep into every film we make? Fortunately most all films have a Christian underpinning in there plot. It is just that we must pull the line up to air to breath in all that God would have us do.
“Princess Kaguya” is a quite beautiful film in which each brush stroke you see. It is for this reason why I recommend this film. Plus it has people living in mostly God-honoring ways: we have mother & father, kids that do what every kid does, even evil intents but the father and those that want to marry Kaguya. It is all in the Bible, and in all creation because Yahweh ordered it to be, and not man.

This animated tale is produced by Studio Ghibli, and directed and co-written by Isao Takahata, based on the folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo by an old bamboo cutter and his wife, a tiny girl grows rapidly into an exquisite young lady. The mysterious young princess enthralls all who encounter her - but ultimately she must confront her fate, the punishment for her crime. |
