Okay, now that I sit down from being so exited about the film, espeacially toward the end, I will write to you who possibly have now seen the film. Takes place in a German POW camp during WW2. Playing a German Nazi is Max Von Sydow, a great actor, who is taken with Micheal Caine, Sylvester Stallone, and Pele's soccer (or football, as it is called in Briton). Sydow has the idea to get the soccer team, POWs all, to play the Germans. Well they do and boy, is it exiting. Pele, for those of you who don't know, was the soccer champ around the '80s, when this film was made.
It all has to do with escape from the POW camp. I am instantly reminded of another POW film that came out in 1963 called "The Great Escape." However, "The Great Escape" was true, or about 85% of it was, and "Victory," as far as I can tell, was NOT true, but it showed how the fighting men in the camp never stopped giving up on escaping to be, once again, in the forefront of the Allied army!
then I thot of that war. We won it, to be sure, and did it because the Nazi's were bullying the other countries (so was the Japanese military higher-ups in that day -- sad time, for I love Japan). That was the last war that we have fought. Everything afterward, from Korea, Vietnam, and up until today, they are known as conflicts, nothing more. Sure, we can all get behind our soldiers to rally them, and the bully, be it Korean or Vietnamese Communists, or Hussein or Ben Laden deserved the death-knells that we gave them, but it was not an all out war.
That's why God, in WW2, got on our side and made us beat them. Remember, it is God's tale, not us. He made us, governs us, makes us do the things we do. He is like a director, or a composer, making us think the very thots we are having.
Back to "Victory." The musical score was done by Bill Conti. What? You don't know who Bill Conti is? Shame on you! Does the score to the "Rocky" series (minus one film) or "The Right Stuff" (a mostly accurate telling of the early days of NASA and the astronauts) clue you in?
