Reviews: Wow! 4.5-stars and a whopping 2 hours and 44 minutes of total disaster! Ad to that the stars, McQueen, Newman, Holden, Vaughn, Wagner, Chamberlain, Dunaway and my no. 2 favorite film actor Fred Astaire.
Irwin Allen, another disaster film, did a masterful job getting 20th Century and Warner Bros to put up half of the films money. Today that would be commonplace, but in 1974 it wasn’t.
And it still holds up and it is trilling. I cried each time one of the stars fell to there deaths, or were burned. Sure, emotions for me since I had the stroke when watching a film sends me over, but when you see The Towering Inferno, you can get a taste of heart-rending ache. Tall buildings could even now be prone to fire…gee, even houses or apartments, which I live in…gulp! |
