“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
That, my dear friends, is what we are to do, to strive to rescue, redeem one soul. It doesn't matter if the person is lost, on their way to hell, or in need of something that you can give, it is God's way of dealing with humanity, His own creation. Do it!
Gritty and realistic in the ultimate sense, this unflinching war movie has it all. When Hank's Captain Miller trudged thru the bloodstained ocean on D-Day, his helmet was knocked off when an explosion happened. He was dazed and looked around to see all the carnage bodies. He went to get his helmet. Water was in it due to its closness to the sea. He put it on and it seemed like blood poured forth from the helmet.
It reminded me of Christ, when He had the Crown of Thorns rammed down His temple and His own blood was gushing from the ragged tears from the thorns. His blood was ours, His anguish was ours for He didn't deserve the excruciating pain.
All the carnage was ours on that D-Day, ours in the Crucifixion. It has been since our first parents ate from that tree.
Then, at the end of the film, Capt. Miller goes thru the same thing, a ringing was in his ears and it was the first day of D-Day. He sees his fellow soldiers fall down, dead. Miller is dying too. Dying to set Private Ryan free from such war-torn "society," for what was Europe at that time?
We all are Private Ryan, seeking to get out of this war-torn society that we call home. We try looking in the wrong places, studying some stupefying books like it was some religion, and if fact it is some form of religion, but not the kind that can redeem you.
Christ only can redeem you. That is what the Pilgrims sought. Seek Christ while He may be found!
